APCO 2013 Recap

APCO 2013 - Anaheim

Over 5,200 attendees from the public safety communications industry converged upon the Anaheim Convention Center in sunny California this week for the 79th Annual APCO Conference and Expo. Genesis had the privilege of meeting many of our esteemed fellow professionals and sharing the latest in our performance management solutions, including our numerous solutions and enhancements for ASTRO 25 public safety networks.

A big thanks to all who visited our booth. See you next year in New Orleans.

Customer Case Study: Bell Mobility Radio

Bell Mobility Radio, a division of Bell, operates various wide area, mission critical, two-way voice and data networks, offering services primarily to public safety and emergency services in Canada. Bell Mobility approached Genesis to consider creating a web-based GOS reporting solution. No such application had previously existed, so GenWatch3® iVista was created from the ground up. In December, 2009, Genesis officially released the iVista web-based agency reporting tool. With this tool, communication systems managers have access to an unprecedented array of information and reports, able to generate agency views online from any location via secure login with the same level of encryption used by financial institutions.

Ribbon Cutting at New State-of-the-Art Facility

Ribbon cutting at the new Genesis Phirst BuildingConstruction has been completed on our energy-efficient (green), state-of-the-art building located on Eagles Nest Blvd. in Tyler, Texas! As this was the vision of the first of many new buildings from Genesis Founder and CEO, Phil Burks, the building has been unofficially dubbed as “The Phirst Building”. We rolled out the red carpet for this technical marvel to our friends, family, partners, customers and community. Among those in attendance were Congressman Louie Gohmert (US House – First District of Texas) and representatives from the offices of Senators Ted Cruz and John Cornyn. Numerous other local dignitaries also participated in the ribbon cutting ceremony and open house festivities. This is a day that everyone at the Genesis Group feels a tremendous amount of pride and gratitude for our friends, families, partners, and customers!

Jim Nipp Named Genesis President

Phil Burks congratulates new president Jim NippPhil Burks, founder and CEO of The Genesis Group, has announced that as of Tuesday, March 5, 2013, he is stepping away from his role as the president of the company and has named Jim Nipp of Whitehouse, Texas, to take over that position. Mr. Nipp was formerly the company’s Vice President of Business Development. Mr. Burks says, “For me to turn over the business that has been my primary passion and focus for 24 years is naturally a very difficult thing. However, having worked closely with Jim over the past 4 1/2 years, I know that he holds my values as well as the value of the Genesis brand, and I feel confident that Jim will lead our team to continued success.”

Before joining Genesis in 2008, Jim Nipp spent about 20 years starting and growing successful businesses in the technology industry. He developed a broad base of experience and a keen sense of what it takes for a company to succeed well beyond simple survival. After leaving the USAF and landing in Austin, Texas, in the early days of the tech boom, Mr. Nipp began his technology career at a very young Dell Computer Corporation. Whether with his own companies or on behalf of some of the largest names in the industry, Jim has started computer and electronic component manufacturing and service facilities in the US, Mexico, Taiwan, Eastern Europe and South America.
