Resident Genesis software developer Yessika Guerra was part of a group of technology leaders who led over 40 area middle school girls in hands-on technology exercises. The event was called “STEM Like a Girl” (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) held at The Discovery Science Place. The event allowed young girls to collaborate with women in the community who work in STEM-related fields. Yessika’s group used a cipher wheel to decrypt coded messages.
Yessika holds Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Electrical Engineering. What she says she loves most about her job is “turning ideas into software.”
Along with The Discovery Science Place, STEM Like a Girl was made possible by the local chapter of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) and the Society of Women Engineers (SWE).
